Evaluating an Expression in "Addition Environment"
In this example, Virtual Tiles is demonstrating a step-by step evaluation of the algebraic expression represented by the tiles in the dark "working area". To define the expression to be evaluated, the student drags tiles from the upper left. Values for 'x' and 'y' are then set.

In this screen, the student has selected "Show Algebra," therefore the mathematical equivalent for the tiles is shown. "Substitution" is also checked, so the chosen values for 'x' and 'y' are plugged in. Finally, the expression is evaluated and an answer is given.

This format can be used either as a tutorial or as a way for students to check their work and understanding in progress.
