Multiplying Polynomials in "Multiplication Environment"
Students increase their understanding of polynomial multiplication by visualizing the operation with this application of Virtual Tiles.

To multiply two algebraic expressions, the student must select "Stay Equal." Next, the first expression is entered by dragging tiles onto either the vertical or horizontal bar. The student then drags the tiles representing the second expression onto the other bar. To give a tile a negative value the student double-clicks on it (see horizontal bar).

The student can select "Show Algebra" to see the mathematical expression and clicks on "Multiplication". Virtual Tiles displays the products of the horizontal and vertical tiles, both visually and algebraically, combining like terms to simplify.
